Something Interesting

This morning as I was getting ready for school, my dad always has Pandora on every morning to wake himself up. When I passed his room, I heard an Adele song, and I keep forgetting that Adele is a British singer. What I always find interesting is that, when British singers sing, you can no longer hear their accent. What the heck ? I've always wonder why they have no accent when they sing but as soon as they speak one word, their accent is back. I mean, it's only like this with British singer. Listen to a Filipino with a think Filipino accent singing an English song, you can hella hear the accent.

Immigrants in our own Land

Understanding poems has always been stressful and difficult for me. Even though this poem wasn't as hard like the past poems I had to read, I still found it hard to translate some parts. That's why I found Jessica's blog super helpful. I loved how she explained each stanza. After reading the poem, I was still unsure on what I just read but the only part of the poem that I understood fully, was the theme and the mood. Jessica and I had the same theme and mood ideas.

Theme: Not everything is what you expected it to be

Tone: In the beginning started at a hopeful tone and gradually turns into a very serious tone.

Mood: I found the mood kind of depressing

Devices: Although the poem had no rhyming Jimmy used metaphors and similes

Before, I thought tone was very formal but after encountering Jessica's blog, I changed my answer to a serious tone.

My Mad Dream of an Essay

Remember that time you ate that spicy [turkey] just before you went to bed on the night before the big [Holocaust]?  Oh, that weird dream you had about the 2016 presidential election.  When you woke up you couldn't quite remember the [fabulous] details, but after reading "On Self-Reliance" and "A Sound of Thunder" it's all coming back to you now.

The dream started badly.  You were in line with your family at a [Mall] waiting to be sent to [the dentist].  Everywhere you looked there were posters of president-elect [Amapola], looking like a crazy [penguin] who could eat a whole [trashcan].

Suddenly, there was Ralph Waldo Emerson telling you, "[imitation is suicide]."  You realized that you have something to contribute to the world so you decided to [dance].  But it wasn't easy.  First you had to put on a fancy [tea pot] and [dog bowl] and then you had make a [guitar] to go back in time to the [beach] so you could convince people to learn about the candidates and the [poverty].

But right there in the [movie theater] there was a giant [Santa Clause] and it started [poke] ing at everyone.  People started to [scream].  You grabbed a [nutella] from a nearby [bathroom] and yelled [don't let anyone control your life].  Everyone stopped and listened, so you kept going.

(Haa....this did not make sense at all.)

Now the Speech/ Essay

In the book "A Sound of Thunder", we learned how one little action or thing can affect our future. For example, when Eckels made his choice to go to the past it led him dead in the story. I understand how big choices in life can influence our future such as colleges and jobs, but how can a small choice affect our future ? Like choosing what I want for lunch, does that really make a big impact in my future ? Small actions such as picking up a sticker from the ground, does it really influence my future ? After long thinking, I came to a conclusion that small choices in life does make an affect in our future. When I first made it into the volleyball team in Junior High, I was on the zone. But when it came to the volleyball games, I would get really nervous to the point where I would make excuses to my coach for me not to play the games. Some people told me,"Then why'd you join the volleyball team if your not going to play a game ?". You have to understand that volleyball is my main sport, and back then I've always dreamed to get into a volleyball team. So me making it in the volleyball team was one of the accomplishments I made in my life, I am not going to back down that easily. Anyways, when I would feel down and nervous, my friend encouraged me and cheered me up. She would have this smile on her face while giving me a pep talk and that helped me a lot. During the games when my friend could tell I was nervous, she would pat me on the back. That small gesture changed my mindset and gave me confidence. So yes, one small action can change your future or someone else's future. Me being a total wimp to play the first few games,  people tried to tell me to stop playing. Just like Emerson's essay "On Self- Reliance", don't be discouraged by others. Believe in yourself and keep doing what you love. Doing what you love will lead you to a successful life and also a happier life. So remember, one small "Thank You" or "Nice Job" can change your mindset and also someone's mindset and can change the mood out of everyone's lives. Enjoy the little things.

Emerson's Child

Let's say that Emerson went to High School in present day, what would you think his stereotype would be ? I think that instead of him being that typical studious nerd, I picture him more as a High School dropout. Why you ask ? Well you see, since Emerson is really big on showing creativity, not following others, and following interests, he would drop out of High School to pursue his dreams to do what he wants to do.
If Emerson was here today and gave advice for students in High School, he would
suggest that we should take classes that follows our interests that will later lead us to success. If we take classes that interests us, we are more eager to learn and the motivated we are. For example, you're an artist. Take art classes! If art is something you really love to do, then take a class that will increase your knowledge about stuff you did not already know. Emerson believes that everyone is their own genius and has something great to express , but we wouldn't know our special talents until we express them. So he would also suggest that we should try new things. Trying new things allows us to step out of our comfort zone and extend our understanding. Emerson would tell us something about letting ourselves be free so that we can pursue our dreams. Striving to learn and to grow is the attitude Emerson wants all of us to have.
We all know that Emerson hates when society pressures us or forces us to do
something that we don't love. Emerson is against that. So if he were here and was introduced to the school system today, he would be infuriated. If he goes to each class, and sees students being bored, stressing out about grades, and not being happy, he would sue the school system. It basically goes against on Emerson's argument. Kids nowadays can't express themselves because of society pushing them to do something they think we should do. He would view our school system as bullshit since we're doing something that does not interest us at all which then leads us into blocking our originality and creativity.
Since Emerson is big on not following the crowd, after High School, he would
give us advice about following our interests. He truly believes that if we follow our interests, our interests will lead us to success. Emerson would want us to be happy, and I admire Emerson for that. That we can do whatever we want, say whatever we want, think whatever we want, as long as we are happy. What matters the most is happiness. I feel like Emerson would say something like "If you're not doing what you love, if you're not happy, then what's the point in living ?".
In conclusion, if Emerson sees the world we live in today and the kids dealing
with pressure, he would give us suggestions or advice such as not following the crowd because it kills off our originality, to express ourselves and be creative, and to follow our dreams because following our dreams will lead us to a successful and happy life.

An earth-shattering fart

Wowzers. I almost laughed at this story because I did not expect that this reading assignment would be about time travel. This story talked about killing animals in the past *cough* dinosaurs. This story also talked about the presidential election, like what the hell ? This story is so random. I was expecting kind of like the "Right to you Opinion" or "Self-Reliance" vibe, but to come across a time travel story ? It kind of caught me off guard a bit. But despite of me getting caught off guard, this story was good. I am a huge fan of  time travel movies, like c'mon, "Back to the Future" was my shit when I was younger. So it made sense on why I enjoyed parts of the story. A part I really liked was when the time travelers made a rule to not kill any living thing such as a flower, a butterfly, an insect, etc. to avoid any changes in the future.

Emerson Parody lyrics (Man in the Mirror - Michael Jackson)

I'm gonna make a change, for once in my life
Gotta trust myself, gotta learn to let go
My mind is bright
You have something great to express
You are your own genius
You shouldn't be discouraged
It's your choice, use your voice
Speak up right now
Let it out and be proud
Just be yourself and you won't regret
Step out your comfort zone, and start taking control
It's your own life
We all have ideas that will lead us success
It's our thoughts that matters the most
That's why I want you to know
I'm starting with the man in the mirror
We have the right to be who we are
And no message could be any clearer
Stop society from changing you, and start speaking what you have in mind

My Emerson

To wrap up Emerson, the class decided that everyone should do whatever project they want. I loved this idea because each and everyone one of us are different and have different ideas. If you're and artist, you probably might create an awesome picture collage, or if you love talking in front of the class, you would be doing a presentation.
For me, I love music. So my partner and I decided to create a parody song out of "Man in the Mirror" by Michael Jackson. I think it would be fun because the only subject that we love and have our full attention to is music.
Everyone gets to express their Emerson project on something they love to do.

Emerson for the Young Buck

I feel like with every journal topic, socratic seminars, and blog posts pertaining Emerson's essay, is very repetitive. So I'm sorry to disappoint you guys if I'm writing the same stuff over again. With that being said, here is what I would explain Emerson's essay to a 10 year old.

Emerson believes that each and everyone of us is our own genius. In other words, everyone has something great to express. No one knows your special talents, and you won't know until you express them. Don't let society force you on who you want to be, but instead follow your interests and someday your interests will lead you where you need to go. You have the right to to be who you are and you shouldn't let society decide your future for you. Stop trying to copy everyone else, because by doing that, you are killing off your originality. You wouldn't be able to know who you truly are. When we're alone, we can be our true selves and that's the type of attitude Emerson wants us to be everyday. Trust yourself and let go of the bad actions in the past and renew your ways. Don't forget, every morning you can start over. Do not try to be consistent, because by being consistent, you are blocking your creativity.  Your thoughts are more important , regardless what everyone is saying, believe in your own thoughts no matter what the popular vote is.

Emerson Said It

1) "Nothing can bring you peace but yourself. Nothing can bring you peace but the triumph of principles."
-- Emerson is giving the idea of individuality, it is only us ourselves that can bring peace and harmony in this life. All the answers are within ourselves.

2)  "In every work of genius we recognize our own rejected thoughts: they come back to us with a certain alienated majesty. Great works of art have no more affecting lesson for us than this."
-- When we read someone else's work, we can pick out things and at one point in our thought we found it as a stupid thought. But now, we consider that thought important since it was important to someone else's eyes.

3) "We but half express ourselves, and are ashamed of that divine idea which each of us represents."
-- Be proud of yourself and what you have. We should take care of ourselves and shouldn't be afraid to speak out our mind.

4) "Man is timid and apologetic; he is no longer upright; he dares not to say "I think.' I am,' but quotes some saint or sage.
-- The self is truthful, it does not idle behind your words and actions in the past, it is unapologetic of being and for it is all the better.

5) "Men have looked away from themselves and at things so long that they come to esteem the religious, learned and civil institutions as guards of property, and they deprecate assaults on these, because they feel them to be assaults on property. They measure their esteem of each other by what each has, and no by what each is."
-- Emerson argues that because society is built in such a way where individuals have a hard time trusting themselves, it prevents us from seeing ourselves and others. Emerson also argued that society teaches and instills within us a natural distrust of our own thoughts and ideas.

I'm Self- Reliant (Emerson Notes)

What I understood out of "On Self- Reliance":
  • Do not try to be consistent ----------> blocks your creativity
  • Trust yourself and don't concern yourself with what you've said or done in the past
  • Emerson talks about letting yourself free, learn, grow, and extend our understanding
  • You have the right to be who you are and you shouldn't let anyone decide you future for you.
  • Everyone's life should be unique and original.
  • "envy is ignorance; imitation is suicide" -------> Everyone has something great to express. We shouldn't try to imitate anyone, and if we do imitate someone else, our originality will be killed.
  • Nobody knows your special gifts and you won't know until you express them.
  • Follow your interest and interest will lead you where you need to go
Quotes from the Essay I don't know what they mean (mind as well copy and paste the whole essay)
  • Another sort of false prayers are our regrets. Discontent is the want of self-reliance: it is infirmity of will. Regret calamities, if you can thereby help the sufferer; if not, attend your own work, and already the evil begins to be repaired. Our sympathy is just as base.
  • Travelling is a fool's paradise. Our first journeys discover to us the indifference of places.
  • Your own gift you can present every moment with the cumulative force of a whole life's cultivation; but of the adopted talent of another, you have only an extemporaneous, half possession.
  • Society is a wave. The wave moves onward, but the water of which it is composed does not. The same particle does not rise from the valley to the ridge. Its unity is only phenomenal. The persons who make up a nation to-day, next year die, and their experience with them.
  • Let a man then know his worth, and keep things under his feet. Let him not peep or steal, or skulk up and down with the air of a charity-boy, a bastard, or an interloper, in the world which exists for him. But the man in the street, finding no worth in himself which corresponds to the force which built a tower or sculptured a marble god, feels poor when he looks on these.

Author in Progress

I think I did well on the short response test I took last Thursday. Usually taking tests like that I always feel regret. Even though I didn't really get the BEST grade on the short response test, I didn't really care. All I know is that after taking the short response test, I felt confident and I HOPE I get that same feeling with every test I take. Dr. Preston told me that I needed to "give more meat to the bone", and I 1 agree. Receiving my paper back and comparing with others, I lack information. I got the key points, but I just need to figure out how to put more evidence to back the main ideas up. Also, I noticed that I don't really answer the questions. I need to work on that also. But hey, practice makes perfect :D. Overall, I found that confidence feeling after I took the test more important to me than the grade.

What I put on the Mind Map

"No law can be sacred to me but that of my nature. Good and bad are but names very readily transferable to that of this; the only right is what is after my constitution, the only wrong what is against it."

I added that section on the mind map because this section relates to the main theme of Emerson's idea "On Self- Reliance". I also added to the mind map on what I think the translation is from that section which was that the law of our nature should be the most important to us. Regardless on what the outside world is saying, you should stick to your morals whatever the popular vote is. I believe that that section is very important to remember. I also added an example to that section on which I related it to Abortion. I put that some people think that abortion is good, and some people think that abortion is bad, but what matters is what you personally believe.

Something interesting about the book I'm reading

Something interesting about this book is that this book is all about a girl who gives thirteen reasons why she committed suicide.

My Book Choice for Literature Analysis #3

The book I chose for literature analysis is "Thirteen Reasons Why". I chose this book because my cousin would not stop babbling about how good this book is and how she stayed up all night reading it. So I decided to see what is up with this book that made my cousin obsessed.

My American Voice

How do you know when to speak up ? When someone is getting bullied, speak up. When you see someone being rude, speak up. When you get a F on a test and you know you didn't deserve it, SPEAK UP! People speak up when they know something is wrong. But the problem is, we're afraid to speak up because we don't want to say anything wrong that will make the situation worse, so we remain silent. When someone is getting bullied right in front of you, take the risk and speak up because how are you going to make a difference if you just stand there and observe. I think it just depends on the situation. On our past experiences, obviously we know when to speak and when to be silent (well some people) being silent isn't necessarily bad. For example, if your friend's hamster passed away, the act of just comforting and hugging them is more effective then saying "Sorry for your loss". So silence can also be a powerful thing. One of the hardest decisions in the world is whether you should speak up or shut your mouth. There was this time when I went to go buy school supplies at Wal-Mart, and came across a mother yelling at her 10 year old son. This mothers yelling was so loud,  that she can be heard 5 ailes away. I didn't know what to do, a part of me wanted to go tell that mother "Excuse me, but you're making a scene and you're embarrassing your son. Can you please keep it down ?" and then a part of me wanted to keep quiet since it's none of my business. When I speak up, usually I don't think before I speak. It just comes out. If I'm trying to talk myself out trouble by my parents, I usually just speak without thinking.

Team Vocab

When it comes to the elections of this year many people can anticipate these two candidates to surely accuse each other from doings of the past. Each candidate tries to remain stolid but Hilary definitely outbeats trump. It's aggravating because trump and Hilary are constantly sticking their proboscis into everyone's business and venomously attacking each other. With each debate America is left suspended to watch the next one just to see the two yell at each other. Both Candidates try to hypnotize the world into thinking their fit to be president trying to prove that they can transform this world into something greater, but they simply just illuminate each other's faults.

I AM A GOOD HUMAN

I consider my self as a great friend. Whether they are class friends, best friends, church friends, or even family friends, all I want is for them to be happy. I'll do whatever I can to make my friends cheer up if they're having a bad day. If they have problems or they are stressed, I'll ask to see if there is anything I could to help. I know my friends perfectly well, so I know when to shut my mouth and then start talking. If my friends accomplish anything, I always show how proud I am. I support their decisions, unless they're stupid decisions. All in all, I hate to see my friends upset, stressed, or angry. I am a good human.

Literature Analysis # 2

Book: "Every Day" by David Leviathan

1) I found this book and was interested when I got bored so I started reading the summary at the side of the front cover. "Every day a different body, every day a different life. Every day in love with the same girl." This was the first sentence of the summary and this was what drew me in in the first place. I expected the main character's life to be tragic since it talked about his love with a girl.

2) What kept me on reading was that every page was so descriptive and every chapter was a different story. The story of "Every Day", shows a different person's life and struggles, and that is another reason why I love this book so much, because I'm always eager to find out what happens next.

3) My reading habits involves of peace and quiet. Reading in a loud atmosphere distracts me and lose focus on the reading. Usually when I read, I like to have a little snack with me, mostly fruits. One of the best places to read for me is my backyard. My backyard has tables and comfortable chairs, and depending on the weather, it really feels like no one can interrupt you. It feels good because it is just you, the book, and your imagination.

Letter to my Mentor

Big question: Is it too late to do anything ? Is it too late to pursue your dreams at an old age ?

Dear Walt Disney,
Hey Walt! I was hoping you can be my mentor ? I'm curious and I want to know how did you get the courage to pursue your dream after all that negativity talked about how you lacked imagination and had no good ideas ? How did you receive courage and hope ? Did someone talk you out of you giving up or did you talk to yourself ? I really hope you accept my request on becoming my mentor. I have so many questions to ask you. I feel like you'd give me really good advice on how I should handle a situation on not knowing who to be when I grow up. Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. Later Walt.

A person who looks up to you,
                                                                                                                     Abigail Cardenas

Essay 1 Revised

After reading my colleagues' work and sharing ideas, I realized I could improve my first essay by using good vocabulary and is understandable. I also wi

E.M Forster believes that personal relationships are more
important than patriotism, and I agree.(I thought I could have thought of a better hook) Patriotism is the love for your country while personal relationships are the bond and love you have with people. While patriotism and personal relationships are both good, I personally believe that personal relationships are more important. You cannot have patriotism without personal relationships because how can you love your country if you don't love the people in your country ?
Personal relationships are important because it brings you
closer to people and it makes us feel like we're not alone in this world. Personal relationships creates this unforgettable bond we have for our friends and families that will last a lifetime making us feel happy and loved. Without personal relationships, we would have a world that would look like the purge. People wouldn't have the courage to talk to each other making them shy ( I feel like I could have found a better explanation or vocabulary word for "shy"). Unlike personal relationships, patriotism causes chaos.
Now don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with loving
your country. When you love your country, you give full respect and can proudly say "I'm proud to be an American!" It's just that patriotism can cause friendship or in this case, personal relationships to end. For example, the "All Black Lives Matter" movement and the "All Lives Matter" movement. If my friend supports the "All Black Lives Matter" movement and I support the "All Lives Matter" movement, it creates chaos.(I could've explained this better) We would be fighting on who is right and who is wrong.

Hope you enjoyed reading it!

Vocab List: Fall #5

1) Venomous: (of a person or their behavior) full of malice or spite.

A hug is nearly a gun spelled backwards

E.M Forster believes that personal relationships are more
important than patriotism, and I agree. Patriotism is the love for your country while personal relationships are the bond and love you have with people.
People would not talk to one another making them antisocial.
If my friend supports the "All Black Lives Matter" movement and I support the "All Lives Matter" movement, it creates chaos. We would be fighting on who is right and who is wrong.

When Logic Fails

1) Ad Hominem: to attack the person instead of the argument
Example: Donald trump uses this the most. He attack because he doesn't know how to accept criticism. On twitter he called Clinton a "bigot" and "crippled".

2) Ad Antiquitatem: "It's always been like that" argument
Example: Marriage has always been between a man and woman, therefore gay marriage shouldn't be allowed.

3) Red Herring: mentioning unimportant facts to avoid the actual question.
Example: In the debate, Clinton keeps mentioning about her book. (lol self promoting)

4) Tu quoque: pointing out that someone also made the same error
Example: We're both stupid for trying drugs and alcohol.

5) Straw Man: to ignores a person's actual position and replaces it with an exaggerated version of that position.
Example: If you say "I hate this school", people who uses the straw man fallacy can over exaggerate and say "Oh, since your parents paid you to go to school, does that mean you hate your parents too ?"

6) Naturalistic Fallacy: to derive conclusions about what is right or good from statements
Example: Nature gives people diseases and sickness, therefore, it is morally wrong to interfere with nature and treat sick people with medicine.

7) Dicto Simpliciter: making a statement and expecting it to be true of every specific case
Example: Women are on average not as strong as men and less able to carry a gun.

8) Circulus in demonstrado:

Mistakes for President

After watching the debate for about 30 min. here's what I caught:
1) Trump over exaggerates things, especially to Clinton's ideas
2) Trumps says "Secretary Clinton, does that make you happy ?" proves ad hominem fallacy attacking Hilton.
3) Trump claims to be the most successful businessman, but then he got bankrupt. So that is an error in logic.

BAD WORDS!

How did bad words become bad words ? I've always been curious on how they ended up being bad. Were bad words purposely written bad or did someone start saying they were bad. This topic frustrates and confuses me. This hurts my brain just thinking about it and not knowing the actual answer to this. For example, the word "bitch" originally means a female dog. But I'm so curious about, how did someone turn this word into a bad word. So does that mean I can change a good word to a bad word ? For me, bad words are okay but it depends. If you're going to use it to hurt or offend someone, that's when it crosses the line. But using bad words as in if you stubbed your toe and blurted out "F*ck!!" then that's okay. If you hear someone full out cussing with their friends just to be cool, of course you're going to think bad about them. So yes, bad words does change the understanding between people but it all just depends on how you use them and say them.

Literature Analysis Questions #1 (The Red Pyramid)

1) The Red Pyramid is about 2 siblings who are in quest to find their dad who disappeared by the Rosetta stone. This book aims at Egyptian Gods and that's one of the reasons why I chose this book because I've always been interested in any kind of mythology. There are 2 gods inside the 2 siblings guiding them to face trials and helping them control their powers to find their dad.

2) For me, there isn't a specific theme in this story. This book talks about family, friendship, and sacrifice. This story talks about the 2 siblings who only gets to see each other once or twice a year because the separation of the mom and dad, working together in order to get dad back. Their  goal is to try and get their family back together, but in order for that to happen, the trials they face and the battles requires sacrifice. And on this journey together, the 2 siblings gets to know each other and click.

3) I absolutely  love how this author writes. It makes me want to read more and more. This author knows how to catch my attention and not bore me. His ideas of this story is well made. The actions, the characters, the problems are just so good. This author has good imagination and I feel like this author writes his stories outdoors. It's like he's getting inspiration of the details because of the outdoors. This book shows a lot of description of the surroundings. I could tell this author worked really hard on it and wasn't lazy.

4) How I knew that the theme leaned towards into family is because of this quote, "When you only see each other twice a year, it's like your distant cousins rather than siblings. We had absolutely nothing in common except for our parents." This quote was at the beginning of the story when they haven't connected or care about one another.

Recycling (Satire Project)

We live in a world where everywhere we go there are bottles and cans. One of my biggest pet peeves is when people throw their trash anywhere they want, when there is a trash bin so close to them. I mean c'mon! It's only a 15 second walk to get to the trash bin. Waste has such a huge negative impact on the environment. There are animals who are hungry, that they'll eat the waste clueless on knowing that it could kill them. Recycling is so important because of it reducing pollution and making the  environment so much better. People say, one must start recycling in order for others to start recycling. We keep saying that but it's not making a difference. With that being said, let's start recycling people. First off, lets start on getting rid of the organs. Start by cleaning the brain. Make sure to scrub the end of the brain cleaning all those dirty thoughts. Next, you should rinse the heart and the lungs, If you have kids, and they're afraid of the dark, that's no problem! All you have to do is take the heart you rinsed, dry it, cut a hole at the bottom of the heart, and then stick a light bulb inside of it and there you have it! A homemade red night light for your kids! Next up, we have the tongue, the livers, and the kidneys. Make sure to cut and rinse them so that you can cook them to feed to the homeless and the starving children. Now that we have the organs out of the way, lets now focus on the body parts. Start by chopping off the arms and legs. If you got an arm with long nails, keep it. It can be used as a back scratcher. Now if you have an itch on your back that you can't reach, just take your handy dandy cheap back scratcher and let that handle it for you. If you ended up with a strong and muscled arm, you could use that as a baseball bat. Why buy a $100 baseball bat, if you can just recycle a muscled man's arm and own one for free. Legs can be used as a baseball bat also, but I prefer using it as a golf puck since you'll have more chances on hitting the golf ball with the side of the feet. Skin with tattoos on them can be used as children band aids. If one of your children has a cut, just take the tattooed skin, and just duct tape it to the injured area. And there you go! See how recycling people can make a huge difference to the world now that it'll be cleaner since no one can throw their trash anywhere because they're dead and recycled. Recycling people leads to more food, better health, and a decrease in the human population.

Satire Project Progress

1) For my satire project, I will be writing a document like Swifts. I'm not really a big fan on using powerpoints because they stress the hell out of me. I'm just gonna stick to writing the old fashion way with a pencil and a paper.

2) I write like how I talk. Using fancy words aren't my thing. I love reading a book where I don't have to re-read it over and over again because of me not understanding a single word. I want to read a book that catches my attention. So when I write, its just like me talking. Sorry if I don't make sense, and if there one thing I'm bad at, its explaining things. My writing are probably for matured 6th graders ? Lol idk.

3) I looked up online on topics for my satire, and I chose recycling. My ideas on writing this satire......lets just say its inspired by "The Modest Proposal"

I CAN READ!

My first attempt on reading "Fox on Sox". So I believe my time is 5:32 and 8 mistakes........I mean not bad for someone who hates tounge twisters. And yes I did read it in my backyard.

The Conscience of a Hacker

I personally love this essay. It states, on a hackers point of view, that people sees us, and then quickly judges us. This essay tells us how the hacker actually feels. It also states that adults automatically think that we're all alike.

The Modest Proposal

Reading the Modest Proposal was hell. If you're like me, I had to re-read some paragraphs over again because I couldn't understand it. But after reading it again and actually focusing on it, I finally found Swifts' satire on "The Modest Proposal". Swifts' purpose was to decrease in population and to improve in poverty. Swift explains that we should eat new born babies to prevent poverty and overpopulation. Swifts' idea was meant to be this disgusting and to enrage the reader. This is why "The Modest Proposal" is a great example of satire. Swifts' intention was to draw attention to the true issue.

Everything is Amazing

Louis gave an interesting message about how everything in the world is amazing, specifically on technology, and that we take it for granted. He explained how people complained about their flight being delayed or that their seat doesn't recline much, and this pisses Louis off because they don't even realize that they're sitting on a chair......IN THE SKY! He talked about how people in this generation complains if our text doesn't send right away, but back then, making a phone call back then was difficult. What made his rant so effective was that he was using humor aka satire. And we find it funny because its true! What Louis is saying wasn't wrong. We all find this funny because we can relate to it. Without his humor, less people would've paid attention.

Introduction to Satire

url.jpg
This is a picture of what I think qualifies as satire because they made fun of Donald Trump in a comical way.

url.jpg
This qualifies as satire because this comic criticizes that certain people should be allowed with guns in a comedic way.

“What’s the use you learning to do right, when it’s troublesome to do right and isn’t no trouble to do wrong, and the wages is just the same?”
                                            - Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn

This is a satire example of literature. This means that "What's the point when I'm doing something right, and you're doing it wrong, but we're getting paid the same ?"

Poem Recital of the Laughing Heart

Hahaha, I tried my best for no pauses.....well that was a fail. Ehhh please don't judge.

"The Laughing Heart" response

I really loved the poem and thought it was motivational and inspirational. What's so inspirational about it was that you need to enjoy life and take chances. Yes it's true, you will face hardships along the way, but that shouldn't stop you. There will always be light even in your darkest moments.

"The Right to your Opinion" response

Just so we're clear, I'm not a fan of reading assignments. So I probably read some lines over again because of always forgetting what I just read. But what did catch my attention is that everyone has the right to state their opinion, and that we have the right to give supporting evidence to our opinions. There is no right or wrong answers to this and I suck at explaining, so what I got from all the reading is basically your opinion is your opinion.
